The Spartans put up a good showing in their first battle of the season, against the Oak Forest Raiders.
The Widget athletes fought hard in what for many was their first football experience.
Although the scoreboard showed 0-15, you would have never known it through the tenacity of the PeeWee Spartans. Led by quarterbacks Jacob Miloch and Richard Conley, the offense looked much improved and steady on its feet. The offensive line came together and handled an aggressive blitz package from Oak Forest, led by Nick Meschino, the center of the offensive line. Cam'ron Thomas and Greyson McDonald carried the load up the middle. Jayden Armstrong and Elijiah DelaCruz came up from the Widget team and also contributed with big runs to the outside to jump start the offense. Jaiden Navarro came on a blitz to ensue havoc and it resulted in an interception by Benito Melendez. Richard Conley had six tackles and Dylan Repetowski mirrored with six tackles and three hurries on the quarterback. Cameron Anderson super-manned the field with a huge tackle for loss. On special teams DeAndre Coates was the "Money Man" with an impressive forty yard return. All in all it was a total team effort and a great day of Spartan football.
The Lightweight players fought back from the loss of OL/DL Nathan Hernandez, who had to leave the game due to injury. Both Lighweight touchdowns were brought in by QB Jabari Thomas. WR Bryson McDonald pulled in two great passes from QB Eric Camden, in addition to a fumble recovery.
An exciting full-team effort produced the first Varsity win of the season! RB Vinnie Iannatone, in addition to his many game contributions, scored a 70-yard touchdown run to help lead the Spartans to victory.
